NATO meeting, impeachment investigation, Giving Tuesday: 5 things to know - USA TODAY

NATO meeting comes as cracks in alliance's armor begin to show

Twenty-nine U.S. and European leaders will congregate on the outskirts of London on Tuesday and Wednesday for a NATO meeting, which has been downgraded from a full-blown summit to a "gathering" despite it falling during the alliance's 70th anniversary. The leaders, including President Donald Trump, will discuss a wide variety of strategic economic and security issues: threats from cyberspace, terrorism, Syria's eight-year-old civil war, China's growing military might, an assertive Russia, space warfare and more. But this week's gathering in London comes amid heightened transatlantic frictions, as well as to act as a bulwark again nationalist militarism through a strong U.S. presence on the continent and by encouraging European political integration.

House panel to vote on report of Ukraine investigation

The House's impeachment investigation of President Donald Trump is set to take another step forward Tuesday, as the Intelligence Committee votes on a report of its findings after two weeks of open hearings. If approved, the report will be sent to the Judiciary Committee, which is expected to use it as the foundation of the case against Trump. The investigation has been examining claims that Trump tried to extract political favors from Ukraine in exchange for foreign aid. The Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing Wednesday as it considers whether to recommend articles of impeachment to the full House.

Giving Tuesday: Give back after that Black Friday, Cyber Monday spending spree

Move over Black Friday and Cyber Monday, now it's time to give back. Giving Tuesday is devoted to charitable causes, allowing people to focus on giving to others. The event was started in 2012 by a New York City nonprofit,  92nd Street Y, as part of a partnership with the United Nations Foundation. More than $400 million was raised online last year, and 3.6 million gifts have been donated. That's more than double the $180 million raised in 2016. But it's not just about giving money. You can also give your time by volunteering at a local school or shelter in your neighborhood.
