Rob Kerkovich transitioned from the lab to the field as a Forensics Agent on the NCIS: New Orleans team. His character, Sebastian Lund, is an expert at sniffing out DNA evidence that will, inevitably, lead the NCIS team to the killer at large. However, there’s one thing Kerkovich doesn’t miss from previous seasons.
Rob Kerkovich is part of the original cast of ‘NCIS: New Orleans’
The New Orleans iteration of the NCIS franchise exploded onto the scene in 2014. A few of the original cast members are still part of the series today. Scott Bakula, CCH Pounder, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, and Kerkovich can claim they’re part of what made NCIS: New Orleans what it is today.
Previous cast members, Shalita Grant and Zoe McLellan left the show in previous seasons. New additions, Necar Zadegan and Vanessa Ferlito filled in the spots.
That aside, one other original cast member, Lucas Black, left the show this season when a longtime favorite character, Special Agent Christopher LaSalle, was killed off the show. Fans are still processing the loss.
Meanwhile, Kerkovich’s place on the NOLA team is becoming more important by the episode. Season 6 continues to showcase Sebastian Lund’s ever-improving skills as the newest field agent on Dwayne Pride’s (Bakula) team.
Sebastian moved from the lab to the field in season 3
Sebastian began his journey on the series as a Forensic Scientist who assisted Dr. Loretta Wade (Pounder) in the Jefferson Parish morgue. His work helped lead Pride and the team to the right suspects. He was an invaluable part of the team.
That is until he’s kidnapped for his ability to plan and execute escape plans from prisons. He didn’t give in to the kidnappers’ demands and managed to escape undetected.
After the emotional trauma, Sebastian didn’t feel the same way about his job in the lab, so he submitted an application to become an NCIS agent. Though the team is hesitant regarding Sebastian’s abilities at first, he gains their trust when he helps track down a drug-smuggling cartel, which results in him beginning with Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC).
Even when Sebastian became an official NCIS Forensic Agent, he still hopped between those duties and that of a lab technician to help with forensic analysis, on top of his time helping Patton Plame (Daryl Mitchell) to track down suspects.
Sebastian’s transition proved most successful in season 4, when Pride was out of the office and Sebastian had to step up as a team leader to investigate a murder. Is there anything Sebastian Lund can’t do (No)?
What’s the 1 thing Kerkovich doesn’t miss from the previous seasons of ‘NCIS: New Orleans’?
In an interview with Parade, Kerkovich revealed he has mixed feelings about Sebastian’s move to the field.
“I do miss the lab in a lot of ways. A couple of episodes ago, I actually had to do a scene in the morgue and I walked on the set, and I’m like, ‘Man, I haven’t been on this set in forever,'” he said.
“I do miss it in a way, but if it meant giving up the stuff that I’m doing now, then you can quote me as saying I don’t miss it.”
He went on to explain how Sebastian’s move added more time to Kerkovich’s schedule.
“It was a big jump between season one, where I was typically in two to three scenes an episode, and the majority of those scenes were in the lab or in the morgue,” he said.
“So A) while I had a much easier work week, B) I also wasn’t around a lot. Now, with the evolution of the character and everything they have going on, I’m around a lot more.”
It’s fair to say we’re glad Sebastian made the leap onto Pride’s field team. It means more Sebastian, which is always a good thing.
