Emma Watson Won't Travel Without This 1 Thing and Now We Won't Either - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Emma Watson might be known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movie franchise or her work as an activist but the 29-year-old also knows a thing or two about traveling.

Watson, who started acting nearly two decades ago — she began playing Hermione at the age of 10 — has, as a result, been all around the world so we sit up and take notice when she shares tips on anything travel-related. Ahead learn the one thing she doesn’t board a plane without. The best part? Her in-flight must-have is an affordable item that can be found in any drugstore or grocery store.

Watson, who stars in the latest film adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel, Little Women, — out Christmas Day — alongside a star-studded cast featuring Saoirse Ronan, Timothée Chalamet, Meryl Streep, and Laura Dern, shared with British Vogue what’s in her bag, and in doing so, let the world in on how she makes flights more comfortable.

Emma Watson always travels with a hot water bottle

That’s right, Watson keeps a hot water bottle in her bag. In the five-minute video for the publication posted to YouTube on Dec. 12, 2019, — the actress appeared on the magazine’s Dec. 2019 cover — Watson dumped out the contents of her purse — in her case a woven basket — and offered an explanation. While she went through a variety of stuff equal parts random and cute (e.g. a toy that shoots a ball out of its mouth when squeezed) our ears perked up when she pulled out a hot water bottle.

“I’m 29 and I still carry something that looks like this,” she said holding up a plush white hot water bottle fashioned like a rabbit complete with white fluffy ears. “It’s a hot water bottle,” she said explaining the item that looked more like a toddler’s pillow or stuffed animal. This is where Watson dropped a truly wonderful travel tip. “My favorite thing to do when I get on an airplane is to ask if they will fill this up for me,” she said. “Hot water bottle, they’re the best,” she said snuggling with it.

Thanks to Watson, we’ll keep an empty — remember TSA guidelines — hot water bottle with us in our carry-ons or handbags so we can promptly get it filled to keep us cozy and in a zen-like state despite the cabin air that always seems to be too hot or too cold.

Watson’s friends call her ‘the bag lady’

At the beginning of the video, Watson revealed a nickname her friends gave her because of all the stuff she carries with her. “My friends call me “the bag lady” and the reason for this is that I don’t really pack light,” she said. Although she certainly seemed prepared for any number of scenarios with what she had on hand which ranged from thank you cards, a book by Toni Morrison, two phones (work and personal), vitamins, makeup, sunglasses, Nutella, and a glass straw.

One of the first items Watson pulled out of her bag hinted at the hot water bottle. The actress who starred in 2012’s, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, grabbed a gray scarf saying, “I’m always freezing cold, always. So I’m always carrying a scarf.” Now it makes more sense Watson would carry with her a hot water bottle whenever she travels even in the heat of summer.

Learn why Watson, who turns 30 on April 15, 1990, doesn’t refer to herself as single but rather self-partnered.
