I cried reading Abigail Shrier’s, “Yale, Al Sharpton and the Attacks on New York’s Jews” (Cross Country, Jan. 4). As the granddaughter of four Holocaust concentration-camp survivors, I am horrified by the amount of anti-Semitic attacks that have occurred in such a short period. No one should feel unsafe identifying themselves as belonging to a particular race or religion in America.
In my practice, the majority of my patients have developmental disabilities. One of my patient’s parents recently told me he was surprised to hear that I was off for the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. He said: “You are different from them.” I told him that “I am observant and proud to be a Jew.” Was I supposed to feel privileged when he said that?
I pray for my young children and all Jews that they should never feel they must hide their identity as Jews. This violence against humanity isn’t acceptable and must end.

One thing that is very different between the reactions to Al Sharpton’s race riot of 1991 in Crown Heights and that of today’s Democrats seeking to be nominated for the presidency is evident in the public embrace of Al Sharpton by every Democratic senator now running. In 1991, however, Democratic Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan called the murder of Yankel Rosenbaum a KKK-style “lynching” saying, “this was a race riot . . . as bad as what happened in Detroit in 1943 when black workers were dragged from streetcars and killed by white workers.” The moral decline of the Democratic Party can be measured by that contrast.
